A History Of John Brown & Sons
End Of An Era
When John died Tom (the eldest brother) took control of the company. For several years it ran with just the three brothers. Leonard had already left and was running the perambulator factory.
When Fred died Tom made his son, my grandfather, Clifford a director and Horace did likewise with his eldest son, Jack.

Tom eventually died and Horace became the senior of the company. At that time he also brought in his other son Jim as a director.

Clifford eventually decided that the time was right to leave the company and in 1947 sold his share.

Horace was then left to run Brown's with his two sons and his wife. They ran
the company until 1962,when sadly, they made the decision to sell the business.
